Protecting the Rights of the Set-Apart Community

ST. PETERSBURG, FLORIDA, Aug. 8, 2024 — The African Israelite Justice Foundation (AIJF) is committed to protecting members of the Set-Apart community from all forms of injustice. Focused on defending rights such as freedom of speech, religion, and assembly, the foundation also works to address hate crimes, harassment, and defamation. AIJF’s vision is to ensure that those in the Set-Apart Walk can freely practice their faith and culture without fear of persecution.

A Recent Victory

In a powerful example of AIJF’s dedication, the organization recently came to the aid of a family in crisis. A woman’s child had been taken away by the state due to a misunderstanding at the hospital. Her brother contacted AIJF for support, and the organization swiftly mobilized. Lorvins Lormeus, Vice President of AIJF, shared how the community rallied to raise funds, with over 120 contributors supporting the legal battle to reunite the mother with her child. Through collective efforts, the mother was reunited with her child, and the family is now seeking legal reparations.

“We were able to respond quickly and the Most High got the glory,” Lormeus said, reflecting on the event.

Dedicated Leadership

The AIJF is led by a passionate and dedicated team. Brother Benayah Israel serves as President, guiding the foundation with a strong vision for justice and equality. Alongside him are key figures like Moreh Paul Bateman, Dr. Pastor Kelly Richardson, and Brother Vaughn, all of whom play pivotal roles in ensuring the foundation’s success. These leaders work tirelessly to support the Set-Apart community, striving to uphold their rights and amplify their voices.

Humility + Authority = Divine Action

Lorvins Lormeus, well-known for his music and role as a worship leader, has a deep personal connection to AIJF’s mission. During a transformative 30-day sabbatical, he realized that humility also requires action and authority.

“People often told me I was humble, but I used that humility to not operate in authority,” Lormeus reflected.

He explained how being too passive can lead to disobedience to what the Most High intends.

“I came out of that sabbatical understanding that I need to operate in a certain authority, allowing YAH to approve my decisions and to move forward with power.”

This realization became the foundation for the African Israelite Justice Foundation, which he co-founded to ensure the community has a unified voice against injustice.

Upcoming AIJL Event: a Weekend Empowerment Summit

The AIJF is preparing for its My History My Heritage Empowerment Summit, scheduled for Nov. 15-17, 2024, in Charleston, South Carolina. This three-day event will celebrate the cultural richness of the Gullah Geechee and Set-Apart communities, featuring discussions, activities, and a deep exploration of heritage. The summit will be held at the historic Charleston Towne Landing, a scenic site known for its beautiful grounds and rich history.
