Bringing Awareness to Spiritual Abuse & the Importance of Healing

In today’s interview, we are honored to speak again with Sister Diane of Compassionate Soul Care Ministry (CSCM), a Torah-based counseling service dedicated to supporting sheep on their various journeys toward healing and deliverance. Hosted by June from Yahudah Living, this conversation delves into the critical issue of spiritual abuse. Sadly, many believers who are seeking the truth of Yah end up in communities or camps where spiritual abuse is taking place, where pastor, elder or leaders are twisting scriptures to be manipulative and controlling over the person’s life.

Spiritual abuse can have a deeply damaging impact on those who experience it.

WHAT IS SPIRITUAL ABUSE?
Spiritual abuse is when someone uses religious or spiritual beliefs to control, scare, or hurt another person. This can include:
* Forcing someone to follow a religious script
* Restricting or mocking someone’s beliefs
* Refusing to allow someone to participate in spiritual practices that are important to them
* Humiliating or embarrassing someone using beliefs or scripture
* Coercing someone into giving resources or money
* Controlling someone’s clothing, behavior, sexuality, decision-making, choice to have children, or finances
* Using a sense of divine position to pressure someone to conform

Healing from Spiritual Abuse

A bruised reed He will not break, and smoking flax He will not quench; He will bring forth justice for truth. Isaiah 42:3

Beginning this past August, PURPOSE has focused on Spiritual Abuse. It has been a journey that I did not want to rush through. Even as I write Part Five, I see areas of focus not given the same focus as others. Areas such as Spiritual Abuse in terms of Spiritual Warfare have several connotations; they co-mingle. Powers, principalities, and rulers of darkness seek to keep Yahuah’s children in states of confusion and distress. Emotional, mental, sexual, physical, and financial abuse: the effects of one frequently coincide with the other. Part Four of this series gave added validity to data found on spiritual abuse. The purpose of the survey was to show on a grass-roots level that these findings accurately represent the whole, regardless of religious organization.

Can I Heal From Being Spiritually Abused?

In the previous issues, matters such as witchcraft or spiritual warfare received little attention. With a bit of insight, it does not take much to see how they connect to the dark nature of spiritual abuse. Having written about the emotional cesspool spiritual that abuse leaves its victims, this series will now move toward healing. However, before I do, here is a final recap of what has gone forth.

Spiritual Abuse Defined

Spiritual Abuse, what is it? Is Spiritual Abuse something new, or does it go back to biblical times? Does Spiritual Abuse fulfill a purpose? Is it for power or other reasons? Is there a correlation between Spiritual Abuse and narcissism? Then, there is the concept of abusive leaders who disciple others to become like-minded offensive leaders. “How terrible for you, teachers of the Law and Pharisees! You hypocrites! You sail the seas and cross whole countries to win one convert, and when you succeed, you make them (emphasis mine) twice as deserving of going to hell as you yourselves are! (Matthew 23:15). These are strong words. Strong words deserve strong attention.
